BILLY'S BIRTHDAY BASH
On October 22nd, 2022, Billy, his human family and many pups in his litter showed up at Musqueam Park to celebrate his first birthday. The table was set and bowls of water provided for all canine guests.
The dogs enjoyed an afternoon of running and playing games. So much fun for both the dogs and neighbours who stopped by to congratulate Billy on his big day!

CAROLLERS
This year, some residents were treated to neighbourhood children bringing the tradition of carolling to West Southlands.

NATIVE PLANTS MAP

Keiko Honda, one of our neighbourhood residents, led a project in the spring and summer of 2022 to create a wonderful interactive website about the native and invasive plants of Musqueam Park.
It includes stories, photos, and videos.
Some of the plants are beneficial and edible, while others are poisonous to humans and animals. There are links to websites for plant identification, and ways to report invasive species.

WASHROOM & BENCHES IN THE PARK
There is a washroom in the park, open during the day, at the Highbury Interceptor Air Management Building. And we have benches throughout the park, thanks to advocacy by Mary Tataryn.

NEW LITTLE LIBRARY

The West Southlands Little Library was built by Barry Jinks. He mounted it on a pole at the foot of Olympic Street on April 24th, 2022.
There are four levels:
-
A plaque, dedicated to Vivian Bevis, just above the door
-
Top shelf for “grownup books”
-
Bottom shelf for “kids’ books”
-
Dog cubby below the shelves for poo bags for our neighbourhood pups (just in case their owner forgot to pack their own)
The hope is that our residents will take a book and donate a book. Also, refill the dog bags if they have extra.
